THis is about an Acadian Bayou woman who when left destitute by her nasty brother in law decides to take advantage of a "circumstance of amnesia". A man gets a blow to the head in a bank robbery and wakes up with no memory.Adelida, the heroine, has no money and no where to go so she steps in as the muddled man's "wife". (only he doesnt have one but he doesnt know that yet). THis affords her a way out of the city to travel north on a steamboat with her "husband". (but don't worry, she isn't compromised- doctor's orders!)Anyway, yes, there are some far fetched parts of the story, i.e, shipwreck, buried treasure etc but hey, its fiction why not.Its a clean story with no cussing. The only thing that makes me hesitate to recommend it to young readers is theres a few passionate kisses involving tongues which I found unneccesary.
I love the entire series. You feel as if you know the whole family when you've read all five books. I like reading Carolyn Brown's books because they are funny, good-hearted, and easy to read. This one had a few dark passages but the lead characters left you feeling sure it would all turn out OK and it did. It always does and I like that, after all it is fiction.
First book in the Love's Valley series about post civil war. Features a southern girl meeting and falling in love with a man from the hated north.
This series just gets better and better! I only wish they were a lot longer. It seems like I just get started and wham, it's over.I'm looking forward to the next book #4. I just know it will be just as good if not better. Excellent Caroline, excellent!
This was a different storyline from Carolyn Brown, I did enjoy it.I want to read the rest of the series.
I chose this book to read during a very long flight, I read it all nonstop, that intriguing the story was!
This was for a family member and was just what was wanted. Came faster than expected also.
Carolyn Brown is awesome! This was a great story, terrific characters. Loved the strong gutsy spunky Audeulia! True love story and family love. Loved it!
