I really enjoy reading those Western stories. Life has always been hard for many people, but we get to appreciate how difficult it was to keep one's own place and try to make a living out of the land when faced with greedy people.It's a sad and nice story. The story of the cowboy who is asking for shelter and ends up not wanting to move anymore is quite recurring in those Western books. And even if the story is quite familiar, it's a good read. I really enjoyed it. I love stories of people who are down to Earth, but have to fight hard to keep what they have.I recommend this book
Original in a way. Reminds me of c.j. Petit and how he writes with the girl, the enemies, and coming out as the hero. Will add to list of just read authors whenever New stories beco!e available
Was nice to see the cattle baron, not be killed off as a no good trouble maker. Some thoughtful points that let you think of real life.
Douglas Hirt has written a captivating page turner book that takes place on a farm in New Mexico. Chance Ketcham is a drifter and card player that decides to seek greener pastures after a card game goes bad and he decides to leave and stops in at this farm for a place to rest and eat. Only to find he likes the widow lady and her pa and decides help them from being run off by a cattle rancher that wants to take over the whole valley. I was given an advance copy of this book for my honest review.
This book has everything, gunfighters at the card table, beautiful farmers daughter (in this case daughter-in-law) and don’t forget the tough old cattleman’s desire to keep the whole range for himself by chasing all the “Sodbusters†away.Well add to the the superb way that it is written and you have yourself a book worth curling up by the fire and reading it while enjoying a cup of coffee or whatever suits you.So do that, buy it, read it and enjoy it.
Chance Ketchum, out to take a break for himself, finds trouble for himself and a pretty lady. Plagued with thoughts of when he would settle down himself, the small fought overwater way and surrounding green valley becomes as intriguing to him as the lady running the ranch. A great fast time chaser, I was given a ARC for a honest review.
A drifter happens onto a farm where they offer him shelter and food. They are victims of bullying from the ranch next door, from cattle recking their plantings and buildings trying to get them to vacate their land. He gets involved and takes them down and wins her hand at the same time. I enjoyed the story line. It was an easy read.
Mr. Hirt knows how to hold my interest from beginning to end.Saw only a few typos. Liked the historical details throughout, giving realism and a feeling for the times. Good writing all the way! I was given an advance free copy in exchange for an honest review.
